Alle barn som har hatt bakteriell meningitt og/eller meningokokksepsis, bør henvises til høresentral og tildeles time innen 4-6 uker etter påvist infeksjon.
Pediater har ansvar for å henvise pasienten til øre-nese-halsavdeling med kompetanse innen barneaudiologi så snart meningittdiagnosen er fastsatt.
Det haster med utredning av hørsel etter meningitt.
Videre utredning og oppfølging er beskrevet i anbefalingen Barn som har hatt bakteriell meningitt og/eller meningokokksepsis, bør henvises til audiologisk utredning i Nasjonale faglige retningslinjer for utredning og oppfølging av hørsel hos små barn (0-3år).
