For the period 2011–1014, the Directorate of Health will be operating with six selected strategic areas: public health, primary health care, specialist health care, e-health, health economics and financing, and administration.
Besides ensuring continual organisational development within the Directorate of Health, the administration shall ensure that the Directorate has effective administrative procedures and that the other areas of activity are provided with efficient and timely support services.
Work on e-health and IT shall contribute to ensuring coordination of challenges in the field, and to realising the ambitions for more stringent state supervision of developments.
The Directorate of Health shall administrate and develop appropriate financing arrangements. Good coding and classification form the basis for measuring and describing activity.
The Directorate of Health shall provide expert advice and guidance to the health service and the public. The Directorate shall be a proactive participant in formulating, implementing and monitoring national health policy within the area of specialist health care.
Primary health care is the cornerstone of the health service and shall guarantee everyone with a need for health and care services of service proximity and sound provisions.
Public health is society’s concerted efforts to maintain, improve and promote the heath of the nation by countering factors which pose health risks and promoting factors which contribute to better health.
